Rustic Wine

Alexa play Carrie Underwoods Denim and Rhinestone

Do you remember being a kid going somewhere so amazing you had your outfit picked and laid out on your bed the night before? The sheer excitement you felt knowing you were going to show up and show out. From head to toe your outfit was gonna say you had the "It" look? As I sat on my bed planning the most perfect outfit the night before date night there were no If's, and's or butts . I was wearing Denim shorts and my rhinestone cowgirl boots to complete my outfit for our adventure. To say I was overjoyed for our adventure would be an understatement. To be honest we had been planning our adventure for the week since Sunday night. My requirements were it needed to feel far without having to travel, it needed to feel off the grid or rustic, pet friendly, and the essentials food and drinks. Well in Los Angeles, traffic everywhere truly seems far so we like to cruise the coast and journey on PCH with the best Playlist set on Spotify. Nothing beats cruising up the coast windows down and great music.

Date night for this week consisted of starting our day off with a delicious brunch. We visited Calabasas first with a stop at 10 Speed Cafe which is shared with Pedalers Fork for brunch. From the moment we got there down to our very last bites, customer service was exceptional. Not only did their employees engage with us but when we ordered our food asked for our dogs names so that they may engage with them as well. Each time someone checked on our table they also got down on one knee, called our dogs by name and asked if they were OK as well and awarded them with pats on the head. Unfortunately the day we visited was a 100° day and with two large Australian huskie mixed dogs it can be hard to stay cool. Their employees must have already known because they at one point even brought the girls their own cup of different sized ice cubes to enjoy, and a fresh refill bottle of water. I was truly moved by the kindness, care and attention they not only gave myself , but extended to our dogs. Although Dutchess and Hamster give them four paws and wagging tales, I do wish they had a dog menu. Either way it was an exceptional time.

When it came to food I honestly had no clue where to start. I wanted something filling but not too heavy due to the heat. The menu for Pedalers Fork was simple and right to the point. Sean and I opted for a bacon breakfast sandwich and fries. When I tell you the portions were generous, just one sandwich and frie would have been enough to feed us both. The fries were so flavorful , had an even crisp and delicious taste. My actual sandwich was pure perfection from the perfect toast of our bread, the light fluffy eggs and crispy bacon sandwiched between avocado and arugula. Each bite a mouthful of flavor did not disappoint. After my amazing experience for brunch I definitely look forward to dining here more often.

My takeaways from 10speed Coffee and Pedalers Fork is location is in an amazing spot. Parking is hassle free and even had handicap accessible parking available. There are restrooms that are fully ada/wheelchair accessible and so is the restaurant. Customer service is phenomenal, and sitting outdoors offered an abundance of shade. Can you believe we were barley starting our day and haven't even made it to our final destination yet!?

With our bellies now full and happy it was now time to escape to the hillside and visit a nice hidden gem. From the moment we pulled up I was instantly met with the ease of peace and solitude. Maybe it was being greeted by the rustic structure of The Old Place , or perhaps because we were the first ones on property and the ease of parking would set the tone for a nice calming day. Nothing was quite open yet so we walked around and explored the area. Cornell Winery is breath taking and a perfect intimate space for people of all abilities, pets, large parties you name it. With so many hidden hangout spots scattered about it was truly a sight to marvel at. We felt instantly transported from the suburban life into an old rustic western town straight out of a movie. Several aesthetically pleasing structures perfect for photos, lots of shade, plants and the sound of nature was enough to relax even the most stressed person instantly. As we adventured the property with the pups we were greeted by some of the most friendliest employees that not only engaged with us but also interacted with the pups. Hamster seemed to be more interested in the wild peacocks to notice one of the employees had washed a water dish and filled it with fresh cold water for her.

It took a while for us to get completely settled because there was so much to look at. Being a goth girl who loves all things spooky I was very impressed to see skeletons hanging around the property as well. It's great seeing others who embrace the spooky lifestyle and this winery did it so well.

Wine tasting was an incredible experience. For starters since the day grew hotter I opted for an ice cold pineapple bellini to cool off with. Sean opted for a bourbon barrel stout called Dragons Milk. The dogs laid out on a picnic blanket and people watched while we enjoyed our drinks, relaxed, talked and listened to music. Taking in all the sights and sounds of the surrounding nature truly made you feel off the grid for a second. The strong calming smell engulfed my senses where we sat and the faint hum of buzzing bees soothing sounds whispered nearby. The girls were uninterrupted with the exception of other visitors passing by and stopping to give them pets and the few occasional dogs that came up .

Hours had passed by as we sat and just enjoyed ourselves before we got hungry again. But first wine flights. The flights pairings definitely set your tastebuds on a thrilling adventure. From the dry and savory Rosé to the crisp sweet Pino Grigio , down to a fruitful Red, I found myself hooked. Each wine paired perfectly well to compliment one after another truly made for a great wine tasting. The flight was affordable and could easily turn a taste into a bottle purchase. I found myself struggling to decide which I liked more. Dinner from the old place was very well portioned , hot , fresh and delicious. It surprisingly even made its way home back down the coast.

After a very full day of adventuring it's safe to say I have a new favorite spot that checks off all of my requests. From the feeling of escaping La into a serene setting down to returning rejuvenated. Calabasas and Cornell Winery will definitely remain my new favorite hidden gem that's ada/ wheelchair friendly in socal. If you plan to visit my stops 10 speed cafe is located at 23504 Calabasas Rd, Calabasas, CA 91302 and Cornell Winery is located 29975 Mulholland Hwy, Old Agoura, CA 91301.
