Yuletide Scare: A Christmas Spider

All I want for Christmas is more Halloween!

Season's Screamings my favorite readers! Did you truly believe spooky season ended for me on all Hallows eve? Sahmian was just the beginning of when the winter monsters were unleashed. Dark cold winter nights bring about some holly-jolly- frights all around the world, and I'm here to bring you some of my favorites . Your gonna need more than a warm blanket this winter season as you lay in bed at night filled with fright. But have no fear not every winter creature is scary, but each week I plan to bring to you my favorites as we count down to the arrival of winter holidays.

Spiders may not be actually spooky to everyone but to me they sure are pretty scary. Who says these creepy crawlies are just for Halloween though? As we start to put up our holiday trees and decorate, im always fascinated by how some decorate. For myself personally I prefer a more rustic tree, black, Buffalo plaid, sparkly snowflakes and spooky ornaments, some of which have little spiders on them. I also love doing a very classic 60's style tree made up of very vintage ornaments and bright colors, bubble lights, and tinsel. Tinsel is quite peculiar don't you think? The way it glisten and shines, similar to a spiders web draped around the trees in the first dew of early morning. There are plenty of stories of the origins of tinsel on trees , but my favorite is connected to a special ornament : A Christmas Spider.

Now there are many variations of this story and it's origin but I'll share with you my favorite variant. Unfortunately there is no real pinpoint for where the story originated, but that's the beauty of folklore and legends, each story has its own twist and turns.

There once was a little old lady and her two children. Although very poor they made the most of what they had. One year her children were overjoyed to have stumbled across a pinecone. They nutured and cared for it until it blossomed into a little fir tree. Christmas eve steadily approached but the tree remained naked as the old lady was too poor to afford decorations. That night the children and their mother went to bed sad. When they awoke the next morning they discovered the tree had been covered in cobwebs . While they proceeded to open up the house and windows, rays of sunlight reached the tree , magically turning the webs into glistening strands of silver and gold. This brought good luck and prosperity for the little old lady and her children. They never lived a life of poverty again. Now tinsel is strung on fir trees to simulate the glistening of spider webs, and jelwed spiders are hung on trees to bring about good luck.

Do you hang spiders on you Christmas tree? I always keep one spider ornament hidden in hopes of Goodluck.
