Prey, First Look!

There's something Lurking in the Northern Great Plains not of this world. Our main protagonist Naru of the Comanche Nation takes us on a daring journey of self growth and discovery to prove she infact has what it takes to be a hunter. How far will you go to show you have what it takes to protect your tribe when others doubt you? An epic battle between colonial men (trappers) , wildlife, and the highly evolved creature sets the plot 300 years prior to our 1987s Predator Franchise.

Prey is a prequel that truly did not disappoint. If your as big of a fan as my family is for the Predators franchise; then you will possibly be like so many others and enjoy the film. I was instantly drawn in within the first ten minutes of watching. In the film you will come to know and love characters such as Naru (Midthunder) and her ever so loyal hunting buddy, a dingo name Sarri who embark on a journey of self discovery. Naru is highly trained in the art of medicine healing but feels she has more to life to prove. She is living in the shadows of many great hunters before her and is constantly told she will never become one. The tribes men tell her to know her place and casts many doubts on her. Naru is not only very gifted in medicine healing but also very smart when it comes to out smarting her attackers. Another very strong character is Taabe ( Beavers) who portrays a very strong brotherly love for his sister. He is the only male in the tribe who doesn't cast doubt on her. He captures your emotions in such a way your reeled into a heartwarming brother-sister relationship. The emotions and how characters draw you in is a connection i felt other Predator films lacked and beautifully written in this film. For me personally it was very relatable as my own brother and I have a very strong bond with each other as well. I could almost imagine these characters being us .

Prey truly sets itself apart from the rest in a truly remarkable way. It doesn't require big macho dominate male roles or weapons of mass destruction. Instead it takes us back to a more primitive state. Not only for our protagonist but also in the design of Predator as well. We won't see the super high tech gadgets, body armor and suits on the creature that we have grown accustomed to in other films. He almost seems to mimic those of the Comanche tribe with his body build, his dreads length, his homemade looking gadgets and fighting techniques. It brings us closer to home because you don't get man verses monster and explosives. Instead you see an ever changing battle of our main protagonist lurking in the shadows of the Yautja terrorizing their lands. Much shorter than your typical action packed movie but straight to the point. Prey is an easy to follow film packed with emotion, adventure, and your epic Predator slasher style kills. It's perfectly paced to not only bring you to the edge of your seat, but also back down to home. The question is , who's team are you rooting for?

Naru is truly one badass character played by Amber Midthunder. She truly encompassed a hunters spirit that reels you in after every twist and turn. What happens when the Hunter becomes the Hunted ?
